Health Coaching – what you need to know

Have you ever had a deep knowing that you need to make a change in your life?

What no one taught me in my formal collegiate schooling was that our life is truly a result of how we think.

When we struggle with a problem, our natural inclination as humans is to reach out for help. On the other hand, our struggles can be difficult to face so we ignore, push down, look away from, get distracted from and avoid altogether the very nagging feeling that we need help! Crazy, right?!

Our brain is so smart. Yet, sometimes, our brain can try to protect us from things we need to face.

However, ignoring our body, mind, heart and soul will only cause us to suffer more.

As a health coach, my role is to help in healing the many capacities of life. Our health can no longer be defined as what we eat and how much we exercise, it goes so much deeper than that.

Our health is how we nourish our bodies, minds and soul. Eating the most nutrient dense food that is locally sourced and cooked thoughtfully will be healthy for you, but it won’t solve an unhealthy relationship.

Exercising regularly and sweating out toxins is healthy for us, but not if we are avoiding dealing with a negative emotion that stays trapped in our body.

Having friendships that make us feel less alone are only healthy if we feel emotionally safe to express our authentic selves.

A career and job is necessary to pay for the basic needs of food, shelter, and maintaining a livelihood, but feeling like your work is uninspiring and dreadful will never create a fulfilling life.

Think of a health coach as your guide on the side; supporting you, inspiring you and being real with you. A coach reveals your thoughts in a way that brings you awareness to your habits.

As humans, we all have deeply rooted ways of living and habits that we may not even realize.

Think about the first thing you do every morning. Check your phone? Brew a pot of coffee? Exercise before your mind has time to debate you on it? Journal your rawest thoughts? Pray?

Do you wake up feeling refreshed? Exhausted?

Did you even sleep at all?

Thoughts. Our thoughts are powerful. Thoughts are habitual.

If you are reading this and thinking about a habit you desire to change, I have good news for you. Our thoughts can be changed.

A coach knows the power of our thoughts.

Improving your eating and exercise habits, relationships, spiritual practice, career and managing your stress is completely possible for you.

A most notably popular quote. But, have you ever heard that you need to clear all the clutter and junk out of your mind first?

Think about it. How can you really get what you want and achieve your health and life goals if your mind is preoccupied with debilitating thoughts like

I’m not good enough, I’m not smart enough, I’m not qualified, It’s too hard, I’m a failure, Change sucks, I don’t have time, I’m undeserving, I’m powerless, I don’t have enough experience, I can’t change”

It’s okay to have these thoughts. We are human. It’s not okay, however, to live your life according to these thoughts.

A coach helps you dig deep into why you think thoughts about yourself and your life. To get to the bottom of limiting beliefs, bring them up to the surface and deal with them is not easy.

Real change is never easy, but it is critical to address in order to move forward to have the healthy, joyous life you envision for yourself.

I believe in the power of changing our thoughts and the power of healing. I wouldn’t be here today without receiving and doing this work on myself.
